Client Notification Improvements

We believe in giving your clients control over the automated email notifications and reminders they may receive from your MIDAS system. To that end, we’re making some improvements in this area for v4.25.

Improved Client Email Notification Settings

Previously, each client in MIDAS could be set to receive the following email notifications:

  • None – Client isn’t sent any automated reminders.
  • Bookings – Client is sent automated reminders about their upcoming bookings.
  • Invoices – Client is sent automated reminders about their upcoming invoices.
  • Bookings + Invoices – Client is sent automated reminders about their upcoming bookings and upcoming invoices.

Automated client email notification from your MIDAS system included an unsubscribe link. This allowed clients to opt out of receiving further automated notifications from your MIDAS system. Effectively, the client’s “E-Mail Reminders” setting reverts back to “None”.

For v4.25, we’re extending the automated client notification email options. These now include:

  • Bookings (Upcoming) – Client is sent automated reminders about their upcoming bookings.
  • Bookings (Recently Ended) – Client is sent automated follow-up emails after their bookings.
  • Invoices (Upcoming) – Client is sent automated reminders about their upcoming invoices.
  • Invoices (Overdue) – Client is sent automated reminders about their overdue invoices.

Clients can also unsubscribe from each notification type, rather than blanket unsubscribing from all notifications.

Easier For Clients To Unsubscribe From Notifications

MIDAS v4.25 now includes a “List-Unsubscribe” header in automated email notifications to your clients. This can make it even easier for them to opt-out of receiving further automated notifications from your MIDAS system.

Email software which support the “List-Unsubscribe” header may show a bar/banner at the top of emails, which users can click to opt-out of similar emails.

Colorize Venues

If you have dozens of venues in your MIDAS system, wouldn’t it be useful to color-code each in the booking grid for easy identification?

The ability to “Colorize Venues” is an often voted for Feature Request, and so we’re implementing this for v4.25.

It’s long been our intention to do this, but our desired way to do so has until recently not been fully supported by all browsers. Now, browser support is at a stage where we can confidently implement this option.

Each individual venue in MIDAS can now be assigned its own color. The “row” in the booking grid for that venue will then appear “highlighted” in its assigned color.

A color may be assigned to each venue via MIDAS Admin Options → Manage Venues → [Select Venue(s)] → Colorize.

User Management Improvements

For v4.25, we’ve made a some improvements to user management. These include..

New “Can Search” Permission

We’ve added a new “Can Search” user permission allowing administrators to control which users can access the Search features within MIDAS.

New “Can Import / Export” Permission

We’ve also added a new “Can Import / Export” user permission allowing administrators to control which users can import and/or export data. As well as simple Yes/No options, this setting also includes “Export Only” and “Import Only” options too.

Re-Show The Quick Tour Upon A User’s Next Login

Re-enable the Quick Tour option on any user account. The next time the user logs in, they’ll be presented with the option of a quick tour of the user interface. For more information please see this post.

Support For Users On Unstable Connections

One of the security features we built into MIDAS automatically logs out a user’s session if it detects their IP address has changed. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we found many more users were working remotely from home. Often their home internet connections were unstable, or their ISPs were under heavy load as a result of increased demand. Consequently, some users were finding that their IP address was frequently changing. In some cases, this was happening every couple of minutes! Due to the security restrictions we built into our software, this meant they were being frequently logged out of their MIDAS system.

So for v4.25, we’ve introduced a new “User is on an unstable connection” setting. With this setting enabled on a give user account, MIDAS will ignore any IP address changes whilst the user is logged in. This means that even if their IP address changes, they will remain logged into MIDAS.

This setting, disabled by default, should only be temporarily enabled for users who are experiencing frequent log outs due to a fluctuating IP address.

Optionally Add New Users As Clients

Whenever an administrator adds a new user to their MIDAS system, a corresponding entry is automatically made in the client database for the individual. This is because it is generally assumed that there will be instances when a user adds a booking for themselves.

However, following customer feedback, we’ve now made automatically adding a new user as a client optional. Now, when a new user is added, an “Also add user as a client” box is shown. If this box is unselected, the new user will be added without an associated entry made in the client database.

Easily Toggle “View Access” settings

The “View Access” options allows an administrator to control which venue groups (and therefore venues) a user has access to. By default users have access to all venue groups, but there may be instances when you wish to restrict this. If you have a long list of venue groups, it can be tedious to manually check/uncheck lots of groups. As such we’ve added a way to “toggle” all currently selected groups. Simply click/tap on the “View Access” label, and all checked groups will become unchecked, and vice versa.

Re-show The Quick Tour

The very first time each user logs into their MIDAS system, they’re offered a “Quick Tour” of the user interface.

First introduced in v4.16, the Quick Tour, received positive feedback from users as it provided a quick way for them to become familiar with the main screen. However, the tour would only be offered upon the user’s very first login. Whether they completed the tour or not, it would never be shown to that user again.

We’re changing that for v4.25. Now the Quick Tour will be offered to users each time they login, until they select the “Don’t show this again” box.

Quick Tour of the User Interface now shows upon every login, unless otherwise selected
Quick Tour of the User Interface now shows upon every login, unless “Don’t show this again” is selected

Once the “Don’t show this again” box has been selected, the Quick Tour will not be shown again to that user.

We’re also giving administrators the option to reinstate the Quick Tour to any user account at any time. On the Manage Users & Permissions screen, there’s now a “Show Quick Tour upon user’s next login?” option:

Admin setting to show Quick Tour option to a user upon their next login
Admin setting to show Quick Tour option to a user upon their next login

If selected, the Quick Tour will be shown again to the user on their next login. The user can then of course suppress the Quick Tour by selecting the “Don’t show this again” box.
