Hello and welcome to MIDAS tutorials.

Now as you're probably aware, MIDAS is able to send emails, but in order to do so, you need to configure your email settings.

And it is really important you do this because if you don't, and you forget your password, MIDAS won't be able to email you a password reset link.

So email settings are configured by going to MIDAS Admin Options and selecting "Manage MIDAS" from the drop-down, and then selecting the "Email" tab.

Depending on your server there will be a couple of options available here.

"Sendmail" is an internal program found on UNIX systems, which allows you to send email directly from your server.

In order to do so you need to enter the path to where Sendmail is located on your server.

MIDAS will attempt to auto detect this and fill this field in for you, and you also need to enter an email address the generated emails from MIDAS will appear "sent" from.

So it's a good idea to use something like "noreply" at your email domain.

And as MIDAS allows users to email clients directly from within the system, you can also have these bcc'd to an external address by entering it here.

If you don't have access to Sendmail on your server, you can instead send via SMTP, and we do always advise that SMTP tends to be more reliable for email delivery than Sendmail.

So in the SMTP Host you can enter the hostname for your organization's SMTP server.

If your organization doesn't run their own SMTP servers then you can enter the hostname of your external SMTP server - so for example Google, or Outlook, or whatever your hosted mail provider is.

You also then need to enter your SMTP username and password, and you can also select the connection method here.

There's an "SMTP Test" button which, once you've entered your SMTP details, you can click and MIDAS well attempt to connect to the SMTP server you've specified.

So once again I just encourage you - one of the first things you should do once you set up your MIDAS system is to check your email configuration is correct, and send a test email to ensure that MIDAS is able to send email.

Otherwise, if you forget your login credentials you'll be unable to reset your password.
