Hello and welcome to MIDAS tutorials.

In this tutorial I'm going to show you how you can "block" other venues from being booked when certain other venues are booked.

We're going to use an example here of a sports hall, that can either be booked as an entire hall, or split into two and booked as two separate smaller halls.

Now obviously when one of those half halls is booked, we don't want to allow bookings in the entire hall at the same time.

To illustrate, I've added these three spaces to MIDAS as you can see Sports Hall, Half Hall A, and Half Hall B, which are the two halves of the main Sports Hall.

At the moment we could potentially book all three of these spaces at the same time, which we don't want.

We want it so that if the main sports hall is booked, Half Hall A and Half Hall B are blocked out.

Similarly, if Half Hall A is booked, then we want to block out at the main sports hall.

So we do venue blocking via MIDAS Admin Options, and we select "Manage Venues" from the list and we go to the "Blocking" tab.

Now at the moment Sports Hall is selected, and you'll see it says "when this venue is booked prevent bookings in".

So we want it to when the main sports all is booked as an entire hall, disallow booking in Half Hall A and Half Hall B.

Save changes.

And then we want to do similar for Half Hall A, so when Half Hall A is booked we want to prevent bookings in the Sports Hall as a whole space.

Save changes.

And we also want to do the same in Half Hall B, so when half the hall is used we don't want anybody to be booking the Sports Hall as a whole.

And that's our venue blocking rules set up.

So let's look at that in practice, we'll go back to our booking grid, and we'll add a booking in our Sports Hall from 7:00 till 8:00 p.m., and you'll see there'll be no problem booking that.

And there's our booking.

Now, if we try to book Half Hall A or Half Hall B at the same time - so let's go for Half Hall B - you'll see that Half Hall B, even though it doesn't have any bookings in, is blocked by a booking in the Sports Hall.

Thanks for watching and be sure to check out some of our other tutorials online.
