How to enable, disable, or clear your browser's "Web Storage" cache

Our MIDAS web based room booking and resource scheduling software makes use of the latest HTML 5 "Web Storage" technologies for saving data in your browser.

This is used, for example, to remember the number of days shown in the Booking Grid between sessions, or the sort order of bookings on the Pending Booking Requests screen, or the last selected settings tab on the Manage MIDAS options screen, and so forth.

Most modern web browsers have "Web Storage" capabilities enabled by default, however, if you (or your IT administrator) have disabled such features, or you'd like to clear the existing "Web Storage" data cache currently stored in your browser by MIDAS, then read on...

Internet Explorer

To clear Web Storage in Internet Explorer:

Select Tools → Internet Options → General → check "Delete browsing history on exit", click on Delete, check "Cookies and saved website data", click on Delete once more and then restart your browser for changes to fully take effect. Note: This will remove cookies in addition to Web Storage data, as the browser doesn't provide a friendly way to clear Web Storage data without also affecting cookies.

To enable/disable Web Storage in Internet Explorer:

Select Extras → Internet Options → Advanced Tab → Go to Security → uncheck "Enable DOM-Storage".

Microsoft Edge

To clear Web Storage in Edge:

Select Settings → Privacy, search and services → Clear browsing data → Choose what to clear. Select a time range of "All time", check the "Cookies and other site data", and click "Clear now". Note: This will remove cookies in addition to Web Storage data, as the browser currently doesn't provide a friendly way to clear Web Storage data without also affecting cookies.

To enable/disable Web Storage in Edge:

Select Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data → Allow sites to save and read cookie data. Note: This will affect both Web Storage and cookies.

Mozilla Firefox

To clear Web Storage in Firefox:

Select Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Clear Data. In the resulting dialog, check "Cookies and Site Data", and click "Clear".
Note: This will remove cookies in addition to Web Storage data, as the browser currently doesn't provide a friendly way to clear Web Storage data without also affecting cookies.

To enable/disable Web Storage in Firefox:

Type about:config in the address bar to view advanced settings (you may need to click an "Accept the Risk and Continue" button in order to view settings). Search for "dom.storage.enabled", and double-click on the entry (or use the adjacent toggle button) to toggle its enabled/disabled state.

Google Chrome

To clear Web Storage in Chrome:

Select "More tools → Clear browsing data" from the menu, or type chrome://settings/clearBrowserData in the address bar. In the resulting dialog, select a time range of "All time", check the "Cookies and other site data" option, and click "Clear data". Note: This will remove cookies in addition to Web Storage data, as the browser currently doesn't provide a friendly way to clear Web Storage data without also affecting cookies.

To enable/disable Web Storage in Chrome:

Type chrome://settings/content/cookies in the address bar. On the subsequent screen select "Allow all cookies" or "Block all cookies" to enable/disable. Note: This will affect both Web Storage and cookies. Chrome doesn't currently provide a way to enable/disable Web Storage separately to cookies.

Safari

To clear Web Storage in Safari:

Select Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data... → Remove All. Note: This will remove cookies in addition to Web Storage data, as the browser currently doesn't provide a friendly way to clear Web Storage data without also affecting cookies.
