Strawberry Perl

What is Strawberry Perl?

Strawberry Perl is a free, open-source distribution of the Perl programming language designed to bring a UNIX-like Perl environment to Microsoft Windows.

First released in 2009, Strawberry Perl is a community-driven open-source project intended to be as close as possible to a Perl environment on UNIX systems. It is freely available to download from strawberryperl.com.

What does Strawberry Perl include?

As well as the Perl interpreter, Strawberry Perl includes a package manager (a CPAN client) that makes it easy to install and manage additional Perl modules. This means everything you need to run Perl scripts on Windows is bundled together.

Strawberry Perl and MIDAS

If you wish to download, install, and run a self-hosted edition of our MIDAS booking software on a Windows-based web server, Strawberry Perl is one option for providing the required Perl environment.

Strawberry Perl is one of only a small number of solutions for running Perl on Windows. The other main option is ActivePerl.
