Intranet

What is an Intranet?

An intranet is a private computer network used internally within an organization, accessible only to its staff, members, or other authorized users.

Not to be confused with the Internet, an intranet is generally not accessible to outsiders. It allows organizations to share information and communicate internally using tools such as web browsers, email, and instant messaging, and to access internal resources such as databases, applications, and shared files.

What are the advantages of an intranet?

There are several advantages to using an internal intranet:
  1. Security: As a closed network, it can be secured with firewalls, passwords, and other authentication, making unauthorized access more difficult.
  2. Control: Organizations have more control over the content and functionality of their intranet.
  3. Efficiency: It streamlines internal communication and collaboration.
  4. Cost-effective: It can reduce the need for more expensive external communication channels.
  5. Customization: Access to applications and data can be tailored to specific departments.
  6. Accessibility: It can be reached from any location within the organization.

Intranet and MIDAS

Self-hosted editions of our MIDAS booking software can be installed and run on either internet-facing or intranet web servers. This makes MIDAS a great fit for organizations that want to keep their room booking system entirely within their private internal network.
