Click and Drag: The Fastest Way to Book in MIDAS

While MIDAS has a full booking form for entering all the details of a reservation, the quickest way to create a booking is to use the scheduling grid directly. A click-and-drag gesture in the grid opens the booking form with the most tedious parts already filled in.

Adding a Booking by Dragging

In the scheduling grid, click on the time slot where you want a booking to start, then drag across to the time you want it to end. When you release, the Add Booking form opens with the room, date, start time, and end time already populated from your selection. You complete the remaining details and save. The whole process is noticeably faster than entering dates and times manually.

Moving Bookings by Dragging

Existing bookings can be rescheduled in a similar way. Unlock the drag-and-drop mode using the padlock icon in the toolbar, then drag any booking to a new time slot or a different room. MIDAS checks availability in the new position and either allows the move or flags a conflict.

You can also choose to copy a booking rather than move it - this creates a new booking in the dropped position with the same details as the original. Useful when the same booking recurs occasionally but not on a strict schedule.

How It Fits Into the Workflow

For staff who spend a lot of time adding and adjusting bookings, click-and-drag becomes a natural part of how they use MIDAS. It reduces the clicks needed to create a booking, and the visual confirmation of where a booking ends up in the grid is more intuitive than entering times numerically.

The full booking form is still available for more complex bookings where you need to add resources, set reminders, attach notes, or enter other details. Click-and-drag simply pre-populates the timing part of that form.
