In the very early days of MIDAS, each “venue” (room/bookable space) you added to the system could have a name and a maximum occupancy level (capacity) setting.

Over the years as MIDAS has developed and improved, the number of venue options has greatly increased. Today, you can set hours of operation, simple and complex hire rates, venue managers, blocking rules, alternatives, and rich HTML descriptions.

These additional options have given our software even more flexibility for a wider range of applications. However, increasing the number of individual venue settings/options available, can increase the time it takes to set up or make changes to a venue.

That’s why last March, in response to customer feedback, we introduced a way to allow you to “bulk modify” venues. Users now no longer have to modify settings for each venue one at a time.

Manage Venues Screen

Doing Things In Bulk

The “bulk modify” venue feature allowed more than one venue to be selected at a time from the Manage Venues screen. When the “Save Changes” button was clicked, the current venue settings/options would be applied to all selected venues.

However, some users didn’t appreciate that settings including capacity, rates, hours, and managers would be blanket applied to all selected venues.

Therefore, in order to provide even grater flexibility for users, for v4.21, we’re making it even simpler!

Now, when you have multiple venues selected on the Manage Venues screen and you click ‘Save Changes”, MIDAS will prompt you to select which settings to save to the selected venues:

Bulk Modify Venues Options

This new additional dialog gives users full control by making it easier to make specific bulk changes to venues. We’re sure you’re going to love the enhanced flexibility!

The latest exciting update to our web based room booking and resource scheduling software MIDAS is just around the corner, are we’re really excited to be introducing you to some of the notable new features and improvements you can except in v4.14 right here on our blog…

Now, the ability to “close” individual venues to bookings over a custom date range has long been a staple of MIDAS.

This has allowed users to, for instance, close a particular venue over a holiday period or when a venue is out of action due to a period of scheduled maintenance or refurbishment, etc.

The limitation of this feature has until now been that only one “closed from” and “closed until” date range could be defined for each venue at any given time.

Based upon feedback from our customers – notably including those in educational sectors – in v4.14 we’re improving the ability to close venues between dates, by now allowing multiple “closed” date ranges to be defined for each of your venues:

“Closed” date ranges for each of your venues may be specified in MIDAS v4.14 via MIDAS Admin Options → Manage Venues → [select venue] → Hours → Closed Between

From this screen, simply select a date from the calendar as the “Closed From” date, and a second date as the “Closed Until” date. Clicking the small “+” icon in the lower right corner will then allow you to specify additional “Closed From” and “Closed Until” dates.

Dates that fall within these “Closed Between” date ranges will be unavailable to regular users for booking. (Administrative users however who have been specifically granted the special “Can book outside operating hours” permission can still book even when your venue(s) are closed to regular bookings)

Taking the example of a school/college/university – This improvement for v4.14 will now allow staff to enter dates for all the holiday periods throughout their academic year and beyond!

You can read more about some of the other exciting improvements coming in v4.14 here!

A new update to MIDAS is coming very soon! So we thought we’d take a few moments to give you a sneak peak at some of the new features you’ll find in v3.11

Apply discounts to bookings of different types

A popular request we often receive from users, is the ability to charge different room rates to different clients. Well, v3.11 allows you to assign “discounts” to your Booking Types. For example, if you charge $100/Hour for a room to Corporate clients, but wish to only charge $50/hour for the same room to a Community client, you can create a “Community” Booking Type, with a 50% Booking Type Discount rate!

Close bookable spaces between two dates

If your venues are seasonal or have “down time”, v3.11 will allow you to “close” individual venues to new bookings between two dates. Additionally, if you have a new venue being built which isn’t coming “on-line” until some point in the future, you can still add your new venue to MIDAS, but specify a “Closed Until” time, so that no bookings can be added before your venue’s opening date!

Disable the booking “Times” field

We know that some users of MIDAS book their rooms by the day, rather than by the hour. v3.11 will allow you to globally disable start/end times when adding bookings, so bookings are instead added for entire days (Midnight – Midnight)

Paginated Search Results

In previous versions of MIDAS, there was a limit on the maximum number of search results returned in total, however, these would all be displayed on the same page, leading to slower page loading times. v3.11 now “paginates” it’s search results, to make them load faster and save you having to scroll down long pages of search results

“Pin” Booking Information

When you “hover” over a booking in the booking grid, useful info about the booking is displayed in the “Booking Info” panel, but when you move the mouse away, this information disappears – well, not anymore! v3.11 allows you to “Pin” this information so there will always be something displayed in the booking info panel

Quickly jump to specific invoices

You no longer need to scroll through lengthy lists of invoices, v3.11 will allow you to quickly “jump” to an invoice, simply by entering the Invoice Number!

“Clone” existing user accounts

If you need to set up multiple user accounts in MIDAS, v3.11 makes it even easier to set user permissions which you can “clone” from an existing user

Other Highlights Coming in v3.11..
