How do I upgrade from MIDAS v3 to v4?

Note: This article applies to "self hosted" installations of MIDAS v3 only. If your MIDAS is hosted by us in the "cloud", you'll already be running the very latest version of MIDAS!

MIDAS v4 uses a faster, more reliable, database architecture to that of previous versions, and therefore in order to be able to update from MIDAS v3 to MIDAS v4 (or later) you will first need to have MySQL installed and available.

Please see our blog post "Is my server ready for MIDAS v4?" for more information.

Once you have MySQL installed and up and running, you can then proceed to update your MIDAS installation from v3 to v4 (providing that you had a valid Support Subscription on 1 August 2012)

First, go to MIDAS Admin Options → Manage MIDAS → Update → Check for updates, to upgrade your MIDAS from v3 to v4.

*** We strongly recommend that you always backup your MIDAS installation & data before performing any update ***

MIDAS will inform you that an update is available, and ask whether you wish to update. Once you confirm this, MIDAS will begin the update to v4.

After a moment or so, you should see the following screen, prompting you to enter details of your MySQL server:

Upgrade to MIDAS v4 - MySQL details

Please specify the address of your MySQL server (if different from the web server on which you're running MIDAS - otherwise, you can leave this as "localhost"). You will also need to specify a MySQL user (and associated password) of a MySQL user account that has permission to create/modify MySQL databases.

Once you have entered these details, click "Upgrade my MIDAS", at which point MIDAS will attempt to connect to the MySQL server you've specified, and begin to migrate your existing MIDAS data across to a new MySQL database.

MIDAS will alert you if any issues are encountered during the migration process.

Please see this article if you encounter a "duplicate entries" error during migration.

Once MIDAS has successfully migrated your existing database over to MySQL (which may take a few moments depending upon the amount of data to be migrated), you will then be able to proceed to log in to your updated MIDAS v4!

For more information on the changes v4, please see our blog post "MIDAS version 4: Your Questions Answered" - most notably MIDAS v4 (and later) require that users log in using their email address (instead of their previous MIDAS username) and their MIDAS password.
